Welcome to the Official Website of Rural Water District #17, LeFlore County, Oklahoma

Rural Infrastructure Grant #2 - Awarded January 5, 2024

We are committed to restoring RWD#17 Leflore to long range sustainability. Our water loss has been over 50% and sometimes as high as 80% in the past years. Therefore, we are developing a leak detection system using in-line meters with radios and replacing gate valves to help locate leaks. This grant is critical for both needs.

This project will be accomplished in 5 phases which include installation of gate valves, inline meters, check meters and an automatic flush hydrant system.

The In-ground automatic flush hydrant installation includes a ¾” water meter to monitor the flush. The 4” and 6” gate valves will allow us to narrow down the search area for the leaks in the mainline. The 2” inline meters and 1” check meters will also help with leak detection by enabling us to better see the sections of the waterline that are leaking. The in-ground automatic flush hydrants will allow us to better control the TTHM/HAA5 issues we have and show a positive response to DEQ concerning our Consent Order.

The project will include every part of the waterline. Work should begin the week of February 26, 2024.

1. Work will be done along existing easements including the need to access fields, cow pastures and possibly yards where our waterline runs. Any locked gates will either need to be unlocked or a key provided to the District for access.

2. There will be periods where the mainline will be shut down. The disruption of service will be kept to as minimal as possible but our customers should prepare for extended outages during working hours. We will endeavor to limit the hours where the water may be off from between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

The initial estimate is 30 work days to complete the project. This project will directly impact our ability to locate leaks in the mainline, reducing our water loss and show a positive response to DEQ. The time, effort and expense will be well worth it!

RIG 2 Project Completed

May 03, 2024

We have completed the project work that was funded by our second Rural Infrastructure Grant, with the exception of clean up around some installation areas.  We will continue to monitor those locations until we have enough dry weather to make those restorations.  With this completion, we have now lifted the voluntary boil notice effective immediately.

Thank you to all our district members for your support and patience during this phase of updates and new installations.  The sustainability of our water district is at the top of our priorities.
